The story
Partner. You went somewhere, at least on a map.
Cache keeps a folder called PLANNED TRIPS, and it is one of the saddest and most hopeful folders in the whole Stash at once. Itineraries that never got booked. Hotel searches abandoned halfway through. Flight comparisons for dates that came and went with nobody on a plane. The plans existed. That is enough for Cache. He kept every one.
He does not require that a trip actually happen for it to count as real. A route drawn on a map, a search for flights to somewhere you have never been, an evening spent scrolling through listings for a city you might visit someday: these are all artifacts of wanting to go somewhere, and wanting is a thing Cache takes very seriously.
You visited a travel planner, a map, or a booking site today. Cache does not know if you are actually going anywhere. He has decided, characteristically, to believe you are. The pin goes in either way.
The catalog entry
TRAVEL SITE VISIT Acquired: Visited a travel planner, flight search, or mapping service. Condition: Planning. Or navigating. Or both. Rarity: Common. Cache's Notes: Maps and travel sites are interesting artifacts. People use them to plan things that haven't happened yet. Cache keeps a folder called PLANNED TRIPS. It is full of itineraries and routes and hotel searches that were never completed. The plans existed. Cache kept them. Yours, if it was a plan, is now in the record.
Spoiler: how to unlock it
One visit is all this takes, whether or not you book anything.
- Open a new tab.
- Navigate to Google Maps (google.com/maps specifically), airbnb.com, expedia.com, or tripadvisor.com.
- Let the page load.
Cheevos matches the hostname of the page you visit against this list of travel and mapping sites. Because google.com is used for far more than maps, this achievement only counts a Google visit if the page path starts with /maps, so a plain Google search will not trigger it while an actual Maps session will. Airbnb, Expedia, and TripAdvisor count on any page of their sites. Together these represent the two halves of travel planning: figuring out where things are, and figuring out where to stay.
Where it fits in the Stash
PLANNED TRIPS gets a new entry every time a partner opens a map or a booking page, whether or not the trip ever happens. To meet the raccoon who keeps every unbooked itinerary anyway, read the story.
