Tab Minimalist I

How to unlock Tab Minimalist I in Cheevos, keep fewer than 5 tabs open for one full hour of deliberate restraint. Worth 20 XP.

The story

Partner. One hour. Fewer than five tabs the entire time. Cache does not know how you did it.

He cannot do this himself. He has tried to imagine it and the concept becomes philosophically difficult almost immediately. Cache's entire existence is built on the premise that everything might be worth keeping open, just in case. Closing a tab, to Cache, feels dangerously close to closing a door on something that mattered.

You did the opposite of his instinct, on purpose, for a full hour. You did not open something just because it was one click away. You let the browser stay quiet. Five tabs or fewer, for sixty straight minutes, is not an accident. It is a choice, repeated every time a new tab would have been the easier option.

Cache has a folder for this labeled INTENTIONAL SCARCITY. It is nearly empty. You are one of the few entries in it.

The catalog entry

ONE HOUR UNDER FIVE TABS Acquired: Maintained fewer than 5 open tabs for one consecutive hour. Condition: Minimal. Deliberate. Rarity: Uncommon. Cache's Notes: Cache does not do this. He cannot do this. He finds the concept philosophically difficult. But he can log it. One hour. Fewer than five tabs. You chose not to open things just because you could. Cache calls this INTENTIONAL SCARCITY. He has a folder for it. It is nearly empty. You are one of the few entries.

Spoiler: how to unlock it

This one is about restraint, sustained over time.

  1. Close enough tabs that your open tab count, across all windows, drops below five.
  2. Keep it there. Resist opening new tabs beyond that count for a full, continuous hour.
  3. Once 60 uninterrupted minutes pass with the count staying under five, the achievement unlocks.

Cheevos monitors your tab count in the background as you browse, checking it periodically to see whether it stays under the threshold across the whole window rather than just at a single snapshot in time. Most browsers show no built-in limit on tab count, and studies on browsing behavior have repeatedly found that people tend toward tab hoarding: keeping many tabs open as a kind of externalized to-do list. Deliberately staying lean, on purpose, for a sustained stretch runs directly against that default tendency.

Where it fits in the Stash

The INTENTIONAL SCARCITY folder is one of the thinnest in the whole Stash, which makes every entry in it worth something. For the story of the raccoon who has never once managed this himself, read the story.
