Tab Cadet

How to unlock Tab Cadet in Cheevos. Create 10 browser tabs total to start filling the tab bar. Worth 5 XP.

The story

Partner. Ten tabs. This is the beginning.

Every collector starts somewhere small. Cache remembers his first ten kept files the way some people remember their first ten dollars saved. Small. Unremarkable at the time. Later, obviously, the start of everything.

You have created ten tabs now, total, across whatever sessions it took to get there. Cache marked the moment the count hit ten. He marks these early milestones carefully, because they are the easiest ones to forget once the numbers get bigger.

The turn: nobody remembers tab number four thousand. Cache has checked. But the first ten, people remember those. The search that started it. The link a friend sent. The tab you opened by mistake and kept anyway. Cache keeps the record so you don't have to.

The catalog entry

TEN TABS CREATED Acquired: Created a total of 10 browser tabs. Condition: In progress. Just starting. Rarity: Common. The beginning of every browsing history. Cache's Notes: Ten tabs. This is the beginning. Cache noted when the count hit ten. He marks early milestones. The first ten are always the easiest to remember. After a thousand, they blur. But these ten were the start. They are in the record.

Spoiler: how to unlock it

This one happens naturally within your first few minutes of browsing.

  1. Open tabs the normal way: click a link, press Ctrl+T for a new tab, or middle-click to open a link in the background.
  2. Cheevos counts every tab you create, cumulatively, from the moment you install the extension.
  3. Reach a total of 10 tabs created. It doesn't matter how many are still open, only how many you've ever made.

Every tab a browser opens is a fresh browsing context, its own process or thread in modern browsers, with its own memory space, history entry, and page state, isolated from every other tab. This separation is what lets one tab crash or hang without taking down the rest of your browser. Ten tabs created is a tiny number in the scheme of a browsing lifetime, but it's the first real signal of how you'll use tabs going forward.

Where it fits in the Stash

Tab Cadet is filed at the very front of the Stash's navigation shelf, the first entry in a record that, for some partners, will eventually run into the thousands. To meet the raccoon who marks every beginning, read the story.
