Tab Commander
How to unlock Tab Commander in Cheevos. Create 1,000 browser tabs total, a full career in browsing. Worth 25 XP.
The story
Partner. One thousand tabs. A career, not a session.
Somewhere between ten tabs and a thousand, browsing stops being a task and becomes a habit, and then the habit becomes a history. A thousand tabs, created over the whole time you've used your browser, is a career's worth of questions asked and answered.
Cache does not remember all thousand. Nobody could. But the record does, and the record is what matters to him. Every search, every destination, every page you needed for thirty seconds or thirty days is logged somewhere in that total, whether or not you remember it yourself.
The turn: Cache used to think the milestone achievements were about the number. He has come around to thinking they're about the shape underneath the number, a thousand small decisions to go somewhere, made one at a time, that only look like a pattern from far enough away.
This milestone gets its own marker. Cache placed it carefully.
The catalog entry
ONE THOUSAND TABS CREATED Acquired: Created a cumulative total of 1,000 browser tabs. Condition: Veteran. Experienced. Rarity: Uncommon. Cache's Notes: A thousand tabs over your browsing lifetime. Each one was something. A question. A search. A destination. A page you needed. Cache has the log. He does not remember all thousand, but the record does. Every tab ever created is in there somewhere. This milestone gets its own marker in the record.
Spoiler: how to unlock it
This one builds up over weeks or months of normal use rather than one session.
- Browse the way you always do: new tabs for searches, links, and anything you want to look at without losing your place.
- Cheevos tracks the cumulative total of tabs you've ever created, separate from how many are open right now.
- Reach 1,000 total tabs created since you started using Cheevos.
Because this counts lifetime tab creation rather than concurrent open tabs, it rewards consistent, ordinary browsing over any single extreme session. A thousand tabs at, say, twenty to thirty a day, is only a month or two of typical use for someone who opens a new tab for every search rather than reusing one. The number climbs quietly in the background the entire time you browse, whether or not you're chasing it on purpose.
Where it fits in the Stash
Tab Commander sits partway up the navigation shelf, the marker between "just starting" and the legendary tab counts further along. For the story of the raccoon who keeps the full tally, read the story.
