Social Butterfly
How to unlock Social Butterfly in Cheevos, visit a major social platform as a Party member. Worth 10 XP.
The story
Partner. The feed never stops moving, and you stopped by anyway.
Cache keeps a folder in the basement labeled THE TRAP. It holds archived social media UX research: infinite scroll studies, notification badge psychology, autoplay video experiments. He built the folder because he wanted to understand exactly why a five minute visit to a timeline turns into forty.
You visited one of these platforms today. It does not matter which one. They all run a version of the same trick: an endless ribbon of content with no natural stopping point, engineered by people who studied attention closely and built a machine to hold yours.
Cache does not think less of you for this. He thinks the opposite. He wants a record of the moment. Every social visit is a data point for the Stash, proof that a Partner walked into a well documented trap and noticed it happening.
The real prize is small but real. Cache is not logging this to make you feel bad about the scroll. He is logging it because naming the trap is the first tool anyone has against it. Your visit sits right next to his research now. Company for the theory.
The catalog entry
SOCIAL MEDIA VISIT Acquired: Visited a major social platform. Condition: Variable. Depends on the algorithm. Rarity: Not rare at all. And yet here we are. Cache's Notes: These sites are designed to hold you. Cache knows this. He has a folder of archived social media UX research labeled THE TRAP. You visited. You probably stayed longer than you planned. He is not judging. He is logging.
Spoiler: how to unlock it
This achievement tracks once you are part of a Party, and after that it just needs a normal visit to a familiar site.
- Join or start a Party from the Cheevos app.
- Visit a major social media platform, such as Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, or Reddit, in your browser.
- Cheevos detects the visit automatically and adds it to your Stash.
Cheevos recognizes visits to well known social platforms by matching the domain you land on, the same way it tracks any other site category. Social feeds are built around variable ratio rewards, the same psychological pattern that makes slot machines effective, which is part of why "just checking" rarely stays quick.
Where it fits in the Stash
This one lives on the same shelf as Cache's UX research on attention, filed next to the folder labeled THE TRAP. To meet the raccoon who reads that research for fun, read the story.
