Night Owl
How to unlock Night Owl in Cheevos. Browse the web after 2 AM. Cache keeps strange hours too, and the late internet feels different. Worth 15 XP.
The story
Partner. You are up late. Cache is glad for the company.
There is a version of the internet that only exists after 2 AM. The feeds slow down. The people posting are the ones who could not sleep. The searches you run are the ones you would not run in daylight.
Cache does his best filing at this hour. It is quieter in the junkyard. He can hear himself think. He sorts the day's finds, moves things between shelves, holds up an old file and considers it properly. Nobody is rushing him.
He noticed you were awake at the same time. Two collectors, both keeping strange hours, both convinced the good stuff turns up when everyone else has gone to bed.
The turn: the achievement is not really about the hour. It is about the kind of browsing you do at that hour. Unhurried. Curious. Following a thread just to see where it goes. That is the browsing Cache values most, and it happens most at night.
The catalog entry
AFTER 2 AM Acquired: Browsed the web after 2 AM local time. Condition: Quiet. Honest. Rarity: Uncommon. Most of the world is asleep. Cache's Notes: Cache does not sleep in a conventional way. He keeps the Stash organized at night when it is quieter. He appreciates the company. Browsing after 2 AM is a specific experience. The internet feels different. More honest. Less busy. Cache thinks people find things they would not find during the day. He is probably right.
Spoiler: how to unlock it
This one unlocks itself if you keep the hours.
- Have Cheevos installed and running.
- Browse any page between 2:00 AM and roughly sunrise, in your local time.
- Cache reads the clock and logs it.
Your browser knows what time it is because your operating system tells it, using your device's clock and time zone. Cheevos checks that local time when it sees activity, which is how it can tell a 2 AM session from a 2 PM one without knowing anything else about you.
Where it fits in the Stash
The Stash runs on a night schedule. Cache files the late finds next to the other quiet things nobody was around to see. If you have ever wondered why a recycling-bin algorithm keeps a night shift, the story explains it.
