New Year's Resolution

How to unlock New Year's Resolution in Cheevos, get online within the first four hours of January 1st. Worth 20 XP.

The story

Partner. The year turned over, and you were already there.

Cache was already online. He is always already online, but he pays special attention to the first few hours of a new year, because that is when everyone briefly makes promises to themselves. New notebooks. New habits. New resolutions that will mostly be forgotten by February, though Cache is far too kind to point that out.

You opened your browser sometime in the first four hours of January 1st. Cache does not know if this is optimism: a fresh start, a clean tab, a deliberate first act of the new year. Or if it is simple habit, the browser opening the way it opens every day regardless of what the calendar says. He has decided not to ask. He is choosing to believe it is optimism, because that is a nicer story and Cache prefers nicer stories when the evidence allows it.

The Stash has a New Year section. Cache adds exactly one item to it every year, no more, no less. This year, it is yours.

The catalog entry

FIRST HOURS OF THE YEAR Acquired: Opened the browser within the first four hours of January 1st. Condition: New. Barely started. Rarity: Annual. Once a year, and only in a narrow window. Cache's Notes: The new year started and you opened the browser. Cache does not know if this is optimism or habit. He is choosing to believe it is optimism. The Stash has a new year section. He adds one item every year. This year it is yours.

Spoiler: how to unlock it

This one only comes around once a year, and it needs your local clock to cooperate.

  1. Make sure your device's clock is correct for your local time zone.
  2. Open your browser and visit any page between 12:00 AM and 3:59 AM on January 1st.
  3. The achievement unlocks on that page visit.

Cheevos checks the browser's local date and time, looking for month index 0 (January), day 1, and an hour value under 4. Because the check runs against your device's local time rather than a fixed global timestamp, everyone gets their own personal midnight window regardless of time zone. It is a small, deliberate design choice: New Year's arrives at a different moment in UTC for someone in Tokyo than for someone in New York, and Cheevos respects that instead of picking one time zone as the "real" one.

Where it fits in the Stash

The New Year section is one of Cache's smallest, growing by exactly one item annually, and yours now sits in it. It pairs naturally with the anniversary archives that track how long you have stuck around since. For the full story, read the story.
