Multitasker
How to unlock Multitasker in Cheevos. Keep 20 browser tabs open at once. A guide to tab overload and why Cache does not think it is excessive. Worth 20 XP.
The story
Partner. Twenty tabs. The bar is getting crowded.
Somewhere between tab five and tab twenty, a browser stops being a tool and becomes a state of mind. Each tab is a promise you made to yourself. The article you will read. The thing you will buy. The video you will finish. The recipe. The other recipe.
Most people feel guilty about this. The world has decided that open tabs are clutter, evidence of a scattered mind, a problem to be solved. Cache disagrees, loudly.
To Cache, twenty open tabs is twenty active curiosities. It is a mind that is interested in twenty things at the same time, which he considers a feature of a life well lived. He once tracked 847 items in his working memory simultaneously. He filed that under Tuesday.
The turn: you opened this achievement expecting to be gently shamed about your tab habit. Instead a raccoon is telling you to keep going. That is the whole Cheevos philosophy in one moment. Your browsing is not a mess to clean up. It is loot.
The catalog entry
TWENTY TABS Acquired: Maintained 20 concurrent open tabs. Condition: Active. Possibly chaotic. Rarity: Common. Almost everyone hits this eventually. Cache's Notes: Twenty tabs means twenty things you are interested in simultaneously. Cache does not find this excessive. Cache once had 847 items in his working memory at once. He calls this a Tuesday. Keep going.
Spoiler: how to unlock it
Open twenty tabs at the same time. You may already be there.
- In any browser, open new tabs with
Ctrl+T(orCmd+Ton a Mac). - Get to twenty open at once. Cheevos counts your live tabs.
If your tabs have shrunk until you can no longer read the titles, that is normal and expected. Modern browsers put inactive tabs to sleep to save memory, so twenty open tabs is lighter on your machine than it used to be. You can reopen a tab you closed by accident with Ctrl+Shift+T, which pulls it back from the recently-closed list.
Where it fits in the Stash
Open tabs are working memory, and working memory is where the Stash begins before anything gets filed. Cache sees a crowded tab bar and recognizes a fellow operator. To meet him properly, read the story.
