The story

Partner. You did not stumble in here by accident. Someone vouched for you.

There is a difference between finding a thing on your own and being handed a thing by someone who trusted you would like it. You are the second kind of arrival. A friend sent a link, and instead of just glancing at it, you signed up. You made an account. You committed.

Cache takes lineage seriously. Every item in the Stash has a chain of custody: where it came from, who found it, who passed it along. He treats new partners the same way. You did not appear out of nowhere. You have an origin story, and it starts with somebody else's browser.

That means the person who recruited you gets to watch you grow. Every achievement you unlock, every item you help Cache find, reflects back a little on the friend who sent the link. Cache thinks this is fair. Recruiting is not a transaction to him. It is a bet on someone, and the Stash remembers who placed it.

No pressure, though. Just browse. Cache already logged the important part: you enlisted. Everything from here is bonus.

Spoiler: how to unlock it

This one builds directly on Answered the Call, but requires the extra step of actually joining.

  1. Open a Cheevos share link sent to you by another player.
  2. Follow the sign-up flow and create your Cheevos account.
  3. Complete registration while the invite link's referral information is still attached to your session.

Cheevos attaches a referral identifier to the invite link so that when you sign up, the system can credit the friend who sent it. This is the same basic mechanism used by most referral programs online: a token in the URL that survives through the sign-up process and links your new account back to its source.
