Copycat III

How to unlock Copycat III in Cheevos, copy text 25 times, a high-extraction workflow the Stash keeps count of. Worth 15 XP.

The story

Partner. Twenty-five copies. You are not casually copying anymore.

Somewhere around this number, Cache stops calling it a habit and starts calling it a system. You are pulling pieces from more than one place. Quotes, numbers, links, whole paragraphs, moved out of their original context and into wherever you are building something.

Cache has a folder for exactly this kind of behavior. He calls it EXTRACTED THINGS. It is one of his largest folders, because extraction is most of what he does. He finds a page, he decides a piece of it matters, and he takes that piece somewhere safer. Twenty-five times over, you have been doing the same thing at your own scale.

He does not know what you are assembling. A report. An article. An argument you are building one sourced fact at a time. He only knows the rate is high, and a high rate means the thing you are working on matters to you.

The catalog entry

TWENTY-FIVE COPIES Acquired: Copied text 25 times. Condition: Active workflow. High extraction rate. Rarity: Uncommon. Cache's Notes: Twenty-five copies means you are serious about something. You are pulling information from multiple places and assembling it. Cache does this with everything in the Stash. He has a folder labeled EXTRACTED THINGS. It is one of his largest folders.

Spoiler: how to unlock it

Straightforward, if you keep at it.

  1. Copy text using Ctrl+C or Cmd+C, or the right-click Copy option, across any pages you visit.
  2. Keep going. Each successful copy counts toward the total.
  3. Hit 25 total copies and the achievement unlocks.

Browsers can observe copy actions through the Clipboard API, which fires an event each time content is copied to the system clipboard, regardless of which website you are on. That is how Cheevos tallies the count across an entire session without needing to know what you actually copied. The clipboard itself remains private; only the action of copying is logged.

Where it fits in the Stash

Twenty-five extractions is enough for Cache to notice a pattern, not just an action. It goes in the same growing ledger as every copy before it. For the story of the raccoon who never stops counting, read the story.
