The story

Partner. You copied something. That is all it took.

Cache has built an entire existence around one idea: see something worth keeping, move it somewhere safer. You just did the smallest possible version of that. You highlighted a word, a sentence, a whole paragraph, and you told your browser to hold onto it for you.

The clipboard is easy to overlook. It has no folder. It has no icon most people notice. It just sits there, quietly, waiting to be asked to remember one thing at a time.

Cache does not overlook it. He built his whole operation on the same principle. He sees something. He decides it matters. He moves it into the bag. Copy and paste is that principle, running on your machine, at a scale of one.

This is the beginning. Cache knows it is small. He also knows every collection starts exactly this small.

Spoiler: how to unlock it

This one unlocks the moment you copy anything, anywhere.

  1. Select a piece of text on any webpage.
  2. Copy it using Ctrl+C (Windows or Linux) or Cmd+C (Mac), or right-click and choose Copy.
  3. That is it. The clipboard now holds your text.

Every operating system keeps a clipboard: a small piece of temporary memory that holds whatever you last copied, ready to be pasted somewhere else. Browsers can detect when a copy happens on a page through the Clipboard API, which is how Cheevos knows to log this one. It is one of the oldest interface conventions in computing, dating back to the earliest graphical operating systems, and it still works exactly the same way today.
