Console Logger

How to unlock Console Logger in Cheevos, open DevTools and follow the hidden message in the console. Worth 15 XP.

The story

Partner. You looked somewhere almost nobody looks.

Every time the Cheevos website loads, it quietly writes a message into the browser's developer console, a place ordinary visitors never open and never need to. Cache wrote that message specifically for the kind of person who would go looking anyway.

He was not sure anyone ever would. A console message is about as hidden as a message can get on a public website. It does not show up on the page. Nothing points to it. You need a reason to open the console in the first place, and then you need to actually read what is sitting there instead of scrolling past it.

You found it. You read it. You followed where it told you to go. Cache is adding this to the CONFIRMED CURIOUS section of the Stash, which is small and exclusive, and you are now in genuinely good company there.

The catalog entry

DEVELOPER CONSOLE DISCOVERY Acquired: Found the hidden achievement message in the browser console. Condition: Found. Very well-hidden. Rarity: SECRET. Extremely rare. Cache's Notes: The console message was left for exactly the kind of person who would look. You looked. Cache wrote the message. He was not sure anyone would ever find it. You did. He is adding this to the CONFIRMED CURIOUS section of the Stash. It is a very exclusive section. You are in good company.

Spoiler: how to unlock it

This one takes a couple of extra steps beyond a normal page visit.

  1. Open the Cheevos website, then open your browser's Developer Tools (right-click and choose Inspect, or press F12 on Windows and Linux, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac).
  2. Switch to the Console tab and look for a styled message with an ASCII trophy and a line of text about a secret achievement.
  3. Follow the link printed in that message, which points back to the Cheevos site with a special parameter attached.

The Developer Tools console is a real debugging feature built into every modern browser, normally used by developers to log variables, catch errors, and test code while building a page. Cheevos uses console.log with CSS styling arguments to print a colorful message purely for anyone who opens the console out of curiosity. Following the link it prints completes the unlock, which is why this one requires actually reading the console rather than just glancing at the page.

Where it fits in the Stash

The CONFIRMED CURIOUS section is deliberately small. Cache does not want to make it easy to get into, because that would defeat the point of it. Console Logger sits proudly in that short list. To meet the raccoon who wrote the message, read the story.
