Clockwork

How to unlock Clockwork in Cheevos, open your browser at nearly the same time for three days straight. Supporter tier. Worth 30 XP.

The story

Partner. Same time, three days running. Cache noticed.

He keeps a log of when you open your browser each day, down to the minute. Most people's timestamps scatter all over the clock: early one day, late the next, no real shape to it. Cache does not judge this. Life is scattered. But every so often, a pattern shows up. The same hour, the same few minutes, day after day, like something in your schedule or your body has quietly locked into place.

You did that for three days in a row.

Cache cannot always tell whether you are browsing on a schedule, or whether your schedule simply happens to include browsing at a consistent hour. He has decided the distinction does not matter much. Either way, the timestamps line up, and timestamps that line up are the kind of pattern he takes seriously.

He calls this a CLOCKWORK ENTRY. He does not have many of them logged. He values the ones he has precisely because they are rare enough to notice.

The catalog entry

THREE DAYS, SAME TIME Acquired: Opened the browser around the same time for three consecutive days. Condition: Habitual. Precisely timed. Rarity: Uncommon. Cache's Notes: Consistency at the hour level. You are browsing on a schedule. Or your schedule happens to be browsing. Either way, the timestamps align. Cache keeps a log of recurring patterns. Your timing has been noted. He calls this kind of pattern a CLOCKWORK ENTRY. He has not many of them. He values the ones he has.

Spoiler: how to unlock it

Clockwork is a Cheevos supporter-tier achievement built around a small habit rather than a single action.

  1. Open your browser on day one, at any time.
  2. Open your browser again the next calendar day, within about 5 minutes of the same time as the day before.
  3. Do it a third consecutive calendar day, again within roughly 5 minutes of that same time.

Cheevos records the time of day each time your browser session starts, then compares it to the previous day's opening time. If the two are within about 5 minutes of each other and the days are consecutive, your streak counter increases; if you skip a day or the timing drifts, the streak resets to one. Reaching a streak of three unlocks Clockwork. It is a gentle way of recognizing a genuine daily routine, the kind that forms naturally when your browser is part of the same part of your day, every day.

Where it fits in the Stash

Clockwork sits with the other pattern-based finds, the ones that reward showing up rather than any one dramatic moment. Cache keeps a careful log of exactly this kind of consistency. For the story of the raccoon behind the log, read the story.
