Cleanup City
How to unlock Cleanup City in Cheevos, close a cumulative total of 500 tabs. Worth 15 XP.
The story
Partner. Five hundred tabs, released.
Cache tracks tab closures the same careful way he tracks tab openings, and he wants to be clear about the vocabulary: nothing gets lost. Nothing gets deleted in the sense that troubles him. A closed tab is released, on purpose, by someone who opened something, used it, and decided they were finished.
He has a folder for this, labeled THE STRATEGIC RELEASE, and it now holds a full five hundred entries with your name effectively attached. Five hundred separate decisions. Five hundred moments of: I do not need this open anymore. That is a different kind of pattern from tab hoarding, and Cache tracks it with just as much interest, maybe more, because closing well is a skill most people never really learn.
The turn, for Cache: he expected to feel something like loss watching five hundred tabs disappear one at a time. He does not. He feels something closer to respect. Every closure was a small act of deciding what mattered enough to keep looking at, and what did not. That is curation. Cache recognizes curation when he sees it, even when it looks, from the outside, like just closing a tab.
The catalog entry
FIVE HUNDRED TABS CLOSED Acquired: Closed a cumulative total of 500 tabs. Condition: Clean. Managed. Rarity: RARE. Cache's Notes: Five hundred closures. Each one was a deliberate act. You opened something and then you finished with it. Or you decided you did not need it. Either way, you closed it. Cache has a folder labeled THE STRATEGIC RELEASE. It tracks tab closures the way he tracks tab openings. The pattern is different. The closures tell a different story. Yours is five hundred entries long. He finds it interesting from both sides.
Spoiler: how to unlock it
This one builds slowly across every session you browse and close tabs in.
- Browse normally with Cheevos active.
- Close tabs as you finish with them, individually or in batches.
- Reach a lifetime total of 500 tabs closed.
Cheevos keeps a running lifetime counter of every tab closed across all your browsing sessions, separate from how many tabs you have open at any given moment. This achievement checks that cumulative counter against a threshold of 500. Unlike achievements that reward having many tabs open at once, this one rewards the opposite habit: deciding you are done with something and actually closing it, which research on tab management generally treats as the harder skill to build.
Where it fits in the Stash
THE STRATEGIC RELEASE folder just crossed five hundred entries, proof that closing well is its own kind of collection. To meet the raccoon who tracks both sides of every tab's life, read the story.
